Wines Red Sforzato di Valtellina

Wines Red Sforzato di Valtellina

Sforzato wine of Valtellina (or Sfursat in the local dialect) is the first dry red passito wine worth a DOCG status since 2003. It comes from a selection of Nebbiolo bunches laid out on straw mats in dry and well-ventilated cellars also known as “fruttai” (places where fruit was kept). After withering, the fruit loses 40% of its weight while it concentrates the juice and develops aromatic fragrances and gets ready for crushing. After that, aging lasts 20 months between barrel and bottle and when wine gets an alcohol content of minimum 14%, it’s ready for tasting.Vine: Nebbiolo (min. 90%) and other suitable vines grown in Lombardy (10%).
