Ribera del Duero is a red wine of great quality, typically intense and full, sometimes robust, with many tannins and concentrated acidity. Many of the nectars produced here are vinified by Tempranillo, also known in the area as "Tinta del País" or "Tinta Fina". Furthermore, for most wines, the use of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Garnacha (Grenache) is allowed, but only in combination with the Tempranillo.
The denomination DO was conferred on the Ribera del Duero in 1982.
